  • Warm Blessings hopes to raise funds through 'Empty Bowls'

    Warm Blessings ”Empty Bowls” soup dinner and fundraiser will be 4-7 p.m. Feb. 11. The soup kitchen is located at 609 E. Dixie Ave. with parking across the street at Caldwell Banker.

  • Bryan plans run for House

     Kendrick Bryan, 24, of Elizabethtown, has announced his plans to run for the State House of Representatives in the May primary.

    Bryan lives in the 25th House District currently represented by Democrat Jimmie Lee.

    Bryan is a graduate student at Western Kentucky University and a substitute teacher at LaRue County High School.

  • Sonora Days Festival canceled for 2012

    The Sonora Days Festival, which over the years has featured a road race, parades, street vendors and entertainment, has been canceled for this year.

    Event organizers say the cost of staging the three-day event and the need for more volunteers prompted them to call off this year’s event.

    Martha Cruse, former president of the Sonora Merchants Association, said it was a difficult decision to make.

    “Money is an issue,’’ she said. “And it takes a lot of manpower to have it.’’

  • Thompsons celebrate 48 years of marriage

     Melvin and Doris Jean Thompson celebrated their 48th anniversary Dec. 28, 2011, at Cracker Barrel.

    They were married in Celina, Tenn.

    They have two children, Penny Veirs and Darryl Thompson; four grandchildren; and one great-grandchild.

     Kathy Ross and Gil Myers received the 2012 Bobby McDowell Award of Excellence at LaRue County Extension Council’s leadership banquet at the Extension office in Hodgenville Jan. 23.

     Middle Creek youth have bake sale

    The Middle Creek Baptist Church youth group will have a bake sale 10 a.m.-1 p.m. Feb. 4 at Hodgenville IGA. Proceeds will be used to help the youth go to camp.
