  • Ireland takes first in LCNI contest

     Linda Ireland, editor of The LaRue County Herald News, was recognized by parent company LCNI in the annual editorial contest.

    Ireland won the Best News or Feature Stories Series category with a series on the LaRue County Detention Center.

  • Heath family reunion

    The family of Josephine and Doc Heath held their reunion July 14 at South Fork Baptist Church.

  • WEDDING: Amanda Jo Cinninger and Joel Bennett Terry

     The marriage of Amanda Jo Cinninger and Joel Bennett Terry was performed by the Rev. Jerry Everley on June 16,2012 at The Old Rugged Cross Memorial Garden in Pokagon, Mich. 

    The bride is the daughter of John and Margaret Cinninger of Niles, Mich., and the groom is the son of Wilma and Roger Ewing of Elizabethtown and James B. and Lisa Terry of Elizabethtown. 

    There was a reception afterward at The Veranda at the Whitcomb in St. Joseph, Mich. After a wedding trip to Jamaica, the couple will live in Covington.  

  • The Historic State Theater presents Andy Griffith tribute

     An Andy Griffith marathon will be presented Aug. 14-18 at the Historic State Theater in Elizabethtown.

    The theater, located at 209 West Dixie Ave., Elizabethtown, will pay tribute to “America’s favorite sheriff” with movies, classic episodes of The Andy Griffith Show and a comedy show.

    Aug. 14 –  “No Time for Sergeants” beginning at 7 p.m.  This film was the start to a beautiful friendship between Andy and Don Knotts (Barney Fife). Tickets are $3.

  • Bardstown the Beautiful: winner of small town contest

    The Kentucky towns of Bardstown and Murray have been named to a list of the “five best small towns in America” by Rand McNally and USA Today.

  • Glen Rice Concert Series continues Aug. 10

    Glen Rice, Family and Friends Musical Concert Series continues its seventh season at 7 p.m. Friday, Aug. 10 at the Hardin County Performing Arts Center.
    The concert is themed “Re-living the Memories” with songs from the 1950s and 60s. It will feature Rice, Christy Miller, Roger Conley, Pat Portman, Allen Hilbert and Amber Martin and The Musical Concert Series Band, Freddy Helm, Tony Cook, Ron Benningfield, Mike Ash, Camille Turner, Eddie Black, Rick Durham and David Keene.

  • Hitch a ride to Hike for Hosparus

     The sixth annual Hike for Hosparus will be Aug. 25 at Bowman Field in Louisville. Registration begins next to the food trucks at 8 a.m.; the 5K run begins at 8:30 a.m. and the walk starts at 9 a.m. Hike proceeds benefit Hosparus’ Kourageous Kids program for terminally ill children. 

  • Kentucky Down Under brings program to library

    When you think of a library, a quiet, peaceful environment usually comes to mind. The LaRue County Public Library was far from that on Friday, however, as it played host to 120 people, two Kentucky Down Under representatives and several native Australian animals.
