If you crave barbeque and like to try new things, you might want to try Smokin Em All BBQ’s mobile kitchen.
Though Jesse Smith, of Hodgenville isn’t new to the craft of barbeque, his mobile kitchen has been up and running for three months. Smith cooks all the food and makes his own sauce, and is assisted by his fiancee, Bonny Burgess.
May is Better Speech and Hearing Month across America and in the spirit of awareness and hearing health, the National Hearing Test (www.nationalhearingtest.org) is offering free hearing screenings during the entire month.
Despite not setting a world record, organizers of a May 18 Bunco tournament in New Haven said they’re pleased with the outcome of the event.
“Of course I’m disappointed with the turnout, but everything ran so smooth,” said Bobbi Jo Nalley, organizer of the event, which was held on Main Street in New Haven. With the help of volunteers, “we had everything set up and ready to go in no time.”
Jane Masse, who helped Nalley with the event, added, “The community really came together.”
Pvt. Jarrod Wayne Murrell graduated May 15, 2014, from Fort Jackson Army Base in South Carolina.
He is the son of DeAnna Murrell and George Hobby, the brother of Courtney, Wayne, Bonnie and Anthony Jr., and the uncle of Jonathan, all of Elizabethtown. His grandparents are Charles and Margaret Brown of Buffalo. Great-grandparents are Freddy and Iris Hoagland of Campbellsville.
Autumn Kidd graduated May 10, 2014, from the University of Louisville.
She received a bachelor of science in nursing degree.
She was a member and president of the Chi Omega Fraternity and was on the executive board for the University of Louisville Dance Marathon. She was recently hired for an RN position at Jewish Hospital in Louisville.
She is the daughter of Larry and Sandy Kidd of Hodgenville.
The sweet smell of baking bread, cakes, cookies and muffins has been wafting from a small shop on South Walters Street since February. The “Breaking Bread Bakery” (a not-so-subtle reference to the Bible) sells bread and other goods – all made from scratch.
For lunch, they also offer a bag lunch, which includes a sandwich (made with their own bread), chips, and a soda.
Fran Dowell of Magnolia is the owner. She bakes everything herself and says that since it opened, the bakery has been “pretty steady but not overwhelming.”
