The 4-H Sewing group met for their first meeting of the year on Saturday, Feb. 15. Members are meeting on Saturdays to begin working on their 4-H clothing projects.
Depending on their age and previous sewing experience, they are given a few options of what to make. Unit 1 sewers will make a pair of pants, shorts or a skirt with an elastic waistband. Unit 2 sewers, who are in their second year in sewing, will make a skirt, pants, or shorts that include a zipper. As the 4-Her progresses through the units, they learn additional skills.
Tickets are on sale for the Campbellsville University Theater Department production of the play “Antigone” by Sophocles in the Russ Mobley Theater Thursday, Feb. 20, Friday, Feb. 21 and Saturday, Feb. 22, all at 7 p.m., and Sunday, Feb. 23 at 2:30 p.m.
Tyler Litton of Hodgenville will play one of the guards. Megan Kist of Elizabethtown, will play Antigone.
The big chill of 2014 has given home heating units a workout and has increased electric bills, with record-setting cold from a polar vortex stretching further south than normal.
In January, temperatures for Nolin RECC members averaged 27 degrees, the coldest in 11 years. On Jan. 6, the United States set a record for the coldest day since 2000 with the average temperature nationwide at 17.9 degrees.
