Hosparus – Hospice of Central Kentucky will host free L.O.S.S. (Loss of Someone Special) support groups in Elizabethtown and Campbellsville. The group is open to family members of former Hosparus patients and others in the community grieving the loss of a loved one.

There should be at least one smoke detector outside of each sleeping area and on every floor of your home. For increased protection, it is recommended that a smoke detector be installed in each bedroom. All smoke detectors should be inspected and tested on a monthly basis. Properly installed and working smoke detectors will provide an early warning and nearly double the chance of surviving a fire.

Thanks to a Wal-Mart donation, 86 people in LaRue County will receive new smoke detectors for their homes.
According to Chris Jackson with LaRue County’s Office of Emergency Management, the smoke detectors will be installed by the county’s fire departments. The volunteer firefighters will perform safety checks at the residence.
Those who are interested and in need of a residential smoke detector can call Jackson at 358-9903 to set up an appointment to have one installed.
Byron Crawford, retired Courier-Journal columnist who has been described as “Kentucky’s storyteller,” will be the guest speaker at Campbellsville University’s second annual Derby Rose Gala on Monday, April 26, at Winters Dining Hall in the E. Bruce Heilman Student Complex at 411 N. Columbia Ave., Campbellsville.
The dinner begins at 7 p.m. with a social hour at 5:30 p.m. The Campbellsville University Board of Advancement is planning the scholarship fundraising event. Tickets are $100 per person.
The Campbellsville University Handbell Choir, directed by Dr. David Hedrick, will present its annual spring concert 8 p.m. April 10 in The Gheens Recital Hall of the Gosser Fine Arts Center at 210 University Drive, Campbellsville.
The Handbell Choir is made up of 14 students from the surrounding area, including Carmen Drake of Hodgenville, as well as out of state.
The concert is free and open to the public.

Sibling Day, which falls on April 10, is a new holiday that the Sibling Day Foundation, a public non-profit charity, is working toward making a federal holiday. Making this a holiday, like Mother’s and Father’s Day, they hope to benefit families and communities. Since 1998, 33 states officially have established Siblings Day. Kentucky is not one of these states. Sibling Day offers brothers and sisters around the country a special day to honor and acknowledge living siblings and remember those who died.

Rice, a retired educator from Buffalo, will perform 7 p.m. April 16 at Hardin County Schools Performing Arts Center, John Hardin High School, 384 W.A. Jenkins Road, Elizabethtown.

In light of ongoing bad news about joblessness in Kentucky and with state and federal budgets experiencing record shortfalls, supporting and maintaining successful programs that have a demonstrated return on investment is of paramount importance to our state’s future. Preservationists across the state are rallying to remind elected officials and their local leaders and decision makers that preserving a community’s historic assets not only generates public-private investment but creates jobs and spurs related investment.
The Central Kentucky Art Guild will meet 6:30 p.m. April 19 at the Nolin RECC building in Elizabethtown. Merle Rosen, a working artist with Golden Acrylics, will cover some of the basic principles of painting with acrylic paints. She usually brings samples for each participant.
Rosen, a practicing artist in Cincinnati for the past 36 years, has shown extensively in museums and galleries including the Contemporary Arts Center in Cincinnati, J.B. Speed Museum in Louisville and the Kharkiv Museum in the Ukraine.
