Niki Carter, director of the LaRue County Public Library, has been accepted as a member of the first Library Leadership Institute for public library directors. The yearlong institute features four sessions of two days each and is being offered through the Kentucky Department for Libraries and Archives.
Sweet Repeats Children’s Consignment Store just completed its first month of business in Hodgenville.
Owned by Sherry Polly, Sweet Repeats opened on April 24. Polly said that she heard that the building space on Lincoln Boulevard was becoming available because the consignment store that previously occupied it was closing and she jumped at the opportunity.
One of the most important jobs you have as a parent is keeping your child safe when riding in a vehicle. Each year thousands of young children are killed or injured in car crashes. Child safety seats and booster seats are the best defense young passengers have against death or injury in the event of a crash. More than 30 years of research and real world experience has shown unequivocally that child restraints save lives and reduce injuries.
I just returned from a brief regional meeting of Main Street managers in this part of the state. We were given some great feedback from the National Main Street Meeting held recently in Oklahoma City, which not all of us were able to attend. I am passing along to you some of the information for retailers that came from that meeting.

Managing meals
The program “Managing Your Meals” will be 9-10 a.m. June 21 at the Lincoln Museum Community Room. The initial class will go over how to follow a meal plan, and gather necessary information to develop a meal plan for each individual.
We have set the following dates for Main Street events. We hope you will make note of them, too. June 15 is our annual board meeting; July 15 we will sponsor a STAR workshop; Aug. 7 will be Family Fun Day; Sept. 11 is the date for the annual Main Street dinner/concert/auction; Lincoln Days is Oct. 2-3; Nov. 15-17, will be setup time for Festival of Trees; Nov. 18-20 the festival is open; Nov. 20 is Christmas on the Square. Another workshop is not yet scheduled but will teach participants how to preserve photos, documents and scrapbooks for the family and community history.
As the political campaign season heats up, Kentucky Department of Highways crews face an increasing number of campaign signs on the state highway right of way – signs that must be removed for safety purposes.
Acting State Highway Engineer Steve Waddle said state highway workers are required to remove and discard hundreds of signs during each election cycle. The signs can pose hazards for drivers and for maintenance crews.
The following tips come from the Extension Service in Louisiana. This is information they found useful after the Hurricane Katrina flooding. During Derby weekend, we all were reminded that high water issues can hit our area too.
Flood waters will contaminate any surface they touch. Here are some kitchen items you must throw out to insure the safety of your food:
•Get rid of all flooded food stuffs except those in sealed, metal, airtight cans or airtight glass jars
