  • BIRTH: Higginbothams welcome Lucy

    Amanda and Adam Higginbotham of Lexington are pleased to announce the birth of a daughter, Lucy Danielle, on Feb. 5, 2010.

    Lucy weighed 7 pounds and was 20 1/4-inches long.

    She is welcomed home by a sister, Claire.

    Maternal grandparents are Linda and Bud Ireland of Hodgenville; and Roger and Elaine Parker of Pennsylvania. Paternal grandparents are Charlene and Ken Kuykendall of Alabama and the late Jim Higginbotham.

    Maternal great-grandparents are the late Donald Gene and France Powell; and Aubrey and Marie Parker, all of Hodgenville.

  • FUNDRAISER: Hosparus offers 50 percent off sale

    The Hosparus Thrift Shoppe, located in Elizabethtown’s Helmwood Plaza, will host a 50 percent off clothing sale, 10 a.m.-5 p.m. April 16.

    Along with stopping by to shop, load up your car with your used wares to donate to the Shoppe.  The Shoppe accepts donations of gently used clothing and home items; proceeds benefit Hosparus patients and their families. For more information, call 270-769-0569.

  • Winners of Martha White Cookoff announced

    Emily B. of Antigo, Wis., is the Grand Prize Winner of the fourth annual Martha White Muffin Mix Challenge for her Ultimate Ice Cream Sandwich Emily will receive the $5,000 Grand Prize for her creative recipe entry.

    Emily turned to her waffle iron to create the Ultimate Ice Cream Sandwich using Martha White Chocolate Chocolate Chip Muffin Mix to create warm, chocolaty waffles to sandwich scoops of creamy, vanilla ice cream. The waffles and ice cream are topped off with hot fudge and chopped peanuts to create the “ultimate” indulgence for kids and adults alike.

  • BIRTH: Hornbacks welcome Honor Elizabeth

    Ernest and Shanda Hornback of Mount Washington announce the birth of a daughter, Honor Elizabeth, born Dec. 7, 2010, at Pearl Harbor, Hawaii.

    Honor Elizabeth weighed 7 pounds 5.5 ounces and was 18 inches long.

    Grandparents are Sharon Hornback and the late George Everett Hornback.

  • RETIREMENT: Super Safe Day

    Sharon Hornback was honored with a plaque after retiring from Hodgenville’s Dollar General Store Wednesday.

    Hornback, known for her standard greeting, “Have a super-safe one,” worked at the store more than 10 years. She plans to “be available to babysit” her grandchildren.
