     Juneteenth – the oldest nationally celebrated commemoration of the ending of slavery in the U.S. – will be celebrated for the first time in LaRue County on June 16.

     Despite the chance for rainy weather, last week’s LaRue County Library’s Teddy Bear Picnic was a success. The library staff and several volunteers coordinated the program at the Abraham Lincoln Birthplace National Historic Park picnic grounds.

    Fair pageant

    Applications for LaRue County Fair beauty pageants can be picked up at these Hodgenville locations: The LaRue County Herald News, 40 Shawnee Dr.; the LaRue County Extension office, 807 Old E’town Road; and Vanity Hair, 111 West Main St. For more information, call the Fair office at 234-3313 or Sandy Bell at 358-8166. The Fair begins June 14.

  • Bowen completes firefighter training

    Andrew Bowen of Magnolia recently graduated from the Glasgow Fire Department training course.

    Bowen began the 12-week training process in March. During the training, he learned skills in the prevention, suppression and repelling of fires.

    Following in his father’s footsteps, Bowen began pursuing a career as a firefighter three years ago by applying for different departments. His hiring process for Glasgow Fire Department began in July 2012.

    A swearing-in ceremony for new recruits was held on May 24 with Glasgow Mayor Rhonda Trautman officiating.

  • ANNIVERSARY: 50th anniversary for Cradys

    Edward and Gloria Adcock Crady of Elizabethtown will celebrate their 50th wedding anniversary 2-4 p.m. June 15, 2013, at Severns Valley Baptist Church.

    They were married June 15, 1963, at Severns Valley Baptist Church.

    Mrs. Crady worked for Elizabethtown Independent Schools and retired from LaRue County Schools. She is an active member of Severns Valley Baptist Church.

    Mr. Crady retired from Transport America Trucking Company and still is employed with Elizabethtown Independent Schools. He also is an active member of Severns Valley Baptist Church.

  • ANNIVERSARY: Gibsons celebrate 62 years

    Kenneth and Rita Gibson of Magnolia will celebrate their 62nd wedding anniversary on June 16, 2013.

    They were married June 16, 1951, at St. Ann’s Church in Howardstown.

    They have six children, Kenny Ray Gibson, Eugenia Butler, Dorman Gibson, Joey Gibson, Venita Hawkins and Viola Hawkins; 12 grandchildren; 16 great-grandchildren and two on the way.

  • WEDDING: Thompson

    Kimberly Williams and David Thompson, both of Hodgenville, were married Dec. 7, 2012, at The Old Mill in Pigeon Forge, Tenn., by Pastor Dave Simmons.

    The bride is the daughter of the late James and Anna Williams of Hodgenville.

    The groom is the son of Duane (Ginni) Thompson and Sandy (Richard) LaFollette, all of Hodgenville.

  • WEDDING: Lewis

    Angel Danielle Humphrey and Adam Elisha Lewis were married May 31, 2013, in a private ceremony at the residence of Gordon McDowell.

    The bride is the daughter of Daniel and Lisa Humphrey.

    The groom is the son of Sid and Judy Lewis.

    Attendants were the couple’s parents, Vicky Enlow and Bryson Elisa Lewis.

    The couple lives in Hodgenville.
