  • Relay for Life making progress toward goal

    With a little more than a week until Relay 2012, LaRue County Relay for Life teams are scrambling to reach the $49,500 goal for this year’s event scheduled to begin at 7 p.m. May 11 at Hodgenville Elementary School. This year’s Relay runs through noon, Saturday, May 12.
    Regina Childress, County Chair, is pleased with the teams’ progress and notes that many teams still have events planned for this week and through May 12 including Buffalo Baptist, Veirs Crew, Howardstown Relay and the Boaters, Campers and Horse Lovers teams.

  • 'Small Town Sexy' author to speak at Chamber dinner

    “Small Town Sexy” author Kim Huston will be the guest speaker for the 2012 LaRue County Chamber of Commerce Annual Meeting May 10.
    “She will speak on the allure of living in small town America,” said LaRue County Chamber of Commerce Director Jessica Davis, “and I believe residents of LaRue County can definitely relate to that.”
    Huston, a Bardstown resident, formerly of Bloomfield, writes in her book about the offerings of a small town while capturing the charm that small communities display.

  • ANNIVERSARY: Dohns celebrate 50 years

    Frederick Lewis and Nannie Berry Dohn, of Rineyville, will celebrate their 50th wedding anniversary May 4, 2012.
    They were married May 4, 1962, by Rev. William R. Smith at New Salem Baptist Church in Vine Grove.
    Fred, son of the late Anna Schlatter and Frederick Edward Dohn, has worked as a farmer all his life.
    Nan, daughter of Willie and Ruby Sherrard Berry, is a homemaker.
    The couple volunteers at their church, Blueball Baptist Church in Elizabethtown, and enjoy working in their garden.

  • ENGAGEMENT: April Lynn Cundiff and Eric Ryan Coffey

    April Lynn Cundiff of Bowling Green and Eric Ryan Coffey of Elizabethtown announce their engagement and forthcoming marriage.

    The bride to be is a graduate of LaRue County High School and attended Elizabethtown Community and Technical College. She is the manager of Duke’s Sporting Goods in Bowling Green.

    She is the daughter of Grant and Vickie Cundiff of Hodgenville.

    The prospective groom is a graduate of Central Hardin High School and University of Louisville. He is employed by Gene Coffey Construction.

  • COLUMN: Free cooking classes offered in conjunction with farmers market

     The opening day for the 2012 LaRue County Farmers Market is 2-5:30 p.m. May 4 at the LaRue County Extension Office parking area. This season the market will be open 2-5 p.m. on Tuesday and Friday afternoons.

    Anyone who wants to participate as a producer in the market may contact Extension Food & Nutrition Education Program assistant Abby Tate at the Extension Office at 358-3401 or email abigail.tate@uky.edu. This farmers market is for local producers.

  • BIRTH: Hacks welcome Kinzleigh Brooke

     Jamie and Heather Hack of Hodgenville announce the birth of a daughter, Kinzleigh Brooke Hack.

    Kinzleigh Brooke was born 11:57 a.m. Oct. 29, 2011, at Hardin Memorial Hospital. She weighed 7 pounds 11 ounces and was 19 1/2-inches long.

    She is welcomed home by a sister, Kaitlin, 11, and brothers Caleb, 7, and Caden, 3.

    Grandparents are William and Shelia Beams and Jim and Vicki Hack, all of Hodgenville.

    Great-grandparents are Minnie Walsh and the late Dale Walsh; and the late Finis and Pauline Hack.

  • Kentucky Christian Writers Conference set for June 22-23

     Comedienne and author Chonda Pierce will serve as keynote speaker at the 16th annual Kentucky Christian Writers Conference June 22-23 at Grace Heartland Church in Elizabethtown.

    A “meet and greet” with conference faculty will be 7-9 p.m. June 21 at the church.

    Pierce has authored six books, including her most recent release, Laughing in the Dark. Pierce has ranked among Pollstar’s top-selling live performers and her comedy DVDs are consistently strong sellers, with six certified Gold and three Platinum releases.

  • New Haven and Rolling Fork firefighters to be honored

     New Haven and Rolling Fork Fire Departments will observe a service of recognition and blessings at 7 p.m. Thursday, May 10 at the departments' station, 363 Center Street, New Haven.

    The two departments provide fire protection and rescue to the City of New Haven, and an area of about 100 square miles in southern Nelson and northern Larue counties.
