  • REAL ID a real solution for Kentuckians

In 2005, Congress enacted legislation enhancing national security by adding new requirements for state driver’s licenses and other official ID cards. In an effort to comply with the standards, the General Assembly passed House Bill 410 this session, also known as REAL ID.

While there has been some concern over the federal requirements, the measure recently passed in Kentucky complies with federal standards while making the new travel ID voluntary, and I want to ensure every citizen of House District 24 is informed on this new policy.

Our deepest sympathy goes out to the family of Ronnie Stubbs who passed away Tuesday, May 16 at Hardin Memorial Hospital. He was known by many in the surrounding area and for playing the harmonica with Marvin King and the Gospel Keynotes. Percell Funeral Home in Elizabethtown was in charge of arrangements.

Jerry Smith passed away on Saturday, May 20 at his residence. His funeral was Tuesday afternoon at Bennett and Bertram Funeral Home.

Congratulations to MJ Embree for receiving a scholarship to Berea College.

Thought for the week: It is what it is, it was what it was and it will be what it will be. Don’t stress it.

Another class of graduates walked the line on May 19. Congratulations to everyone. The weather was perfect.

I have had a great birthday week and I will be celebrating again on May 26 at my friend’s house, Kay Fulmer, and several of my KYknitwits sisters in Elizabethtown.

  • Old fashioned church homecoming

As I continue to make my rounds throughout the county churches, my next visit was Mount Zion Separate Baptist Church for their Homecoming on May 7. As I arrived, members were dressed in clothing from the olden days.

Mount Zion is actually located in Hart County not far from Mount Salem. It’s a small rural area, where everyone knows everyone, neighbors help each other and everyone is greeted with a warm smile and handshake.
