  • COLUMN: Recycling Center back in business

    Yes, we are back in business full force at Renaissance Recycling!

    Here are some helpful hints that will help us to process recyclables much quicker and help tremendously with our amount of trash:

    Please remove lids from all bottles and jars (metal lids go in the tin can window), and make sure food is completely rinsed out of all containers. We are receiving some recyclables with quite a bit of food waste still in them and these cannot be recycled so they have to be thrown in the trash. Remember the idea is to reduce the amounts going to the landfill. 

  • ENGAGEMENT: Aletha Nicole Tharp and Blake Garrison Bault

    Aletha Nicole Tharp and Blake Garrison Bault, both of Elizabethtown, announce their engagement and forthcoming marriage.

    The bride to be is the daughter of Cale Tharp of Hodgenville and Melissa Tharp of Greensburg. She is a 2009 graduate of LaRue County High School and plans to attend nursing school at the University of Louisville this fall. She is employed by HealthSouth Lakeview Rehabilitation Hospital.

  • COLUMN: Have a safe, fun summer

    It seems that not too long ago the summertime used to be called "summer vacation." 

    Now it's nothing like a vacation but rather the "summer work season." Between our regular jobs, getting kids to their sporting events and the endless list of things to do around the house, we wonder how will we ever get everything done.  What shortcuts can be taken? How fast will this lawnmower go? One thing that we never want to do is to take shortcuts with safety. 

  • Hardin Memorial Hospital offers support groups

    Hardin Memorial Hospital, located at 913 N. Dixie, Elizabethtown, offers several support groups and services:

    • Hardin County Breast Cancer Support Group meets 7-8 p.m. on the second Wednesday of each month in the hospital’s Cancer Care Center. For more information, contact (270) 706-5470.

    • Breast Cancer Support: Reach to Recovery provides information and support to anyone facing breast cancer though one-to-one contact with American Cancer Society volunteers. For more information, call 1-800-227-2345.

  • PHOTO: Taste of LaRue

     More than 75 people were in attendance for this year's Taste of LaRue County event Tuesday at the LaRue County Extension Office. The event featured local producers, and provided participants with a taste of local fare including broccoli cornbread, blueberry yogurt, salsa, soups, and a variety of desserts.

       Mr. and Mrs. Phil Fulkerson of Sonora and Mr. and Mrs. Mike Howell of Hodgenville announce the forthcoming marriage of their daughter, Lorann Marie Cruse Howell to Daniel Scott Wheeler son on Mr. and Mrs. Lanny Wheeler of Sonora.
       The bride-to-be is a 2004 graduate of LaRue County High School and a 2008 graduate of Georgetown College with a bachelor’s degree in accounting. She received her master’s degree in business administration at the University of Louisville in 2011. She is a Senior Accountant with Churchill Downs Inc.

  • BIRTH: Hensleys welcome Raeven Phillipmichael

       Raeven Phillipmicheal Hensley was born 8:24 p.m., June 1, 2012 at Flaget Memorial Hospital in Bardstown.    

       He was 6 pounds, 14 oz. and 20 inches long. 

    Parents are James and Mary Hensley. Siblings are Chris, Jimmy, Patrick, Josh and Ryan.

    Grandparents are Rayburn Hensley, Sue Hensley, Joanne Hensley and Theodore and Bridget Wilson. 

  • Hosparus Thrift Shoppe plans open house and sale

     Hosparus Thrift Shoppe will celebrate its 20th anniversary on July 20 with an open house and sale.

  • Jaggers family has reunion

     The E.C. Jaggers’ family reunion was June 3, 2012.

    There were 69 in attendance.

    Members of the Virgie and Bob Hazle family were Norma and Susan Skaggs, Ruth Hazle Laha, Suzanne and Matt Laha, Paul Bruner, Fred and Hope Blakeman, Cindy Kershner, Robert E. Hazle Jr., Brian Hazle, Wilma Hazle and Louis Knott, Brad, Sierra, Matthew and Grace Bruner, Nina Cundiff, Mike, Patsy and Cy Cundiff, Tom Laha and Donna Robinson, Shelia Simmons, Keith and Tim Laha and Leslie Brooks.

  • Volunteers needed to work at State Fair

     If you are looking for something new to do in August that would also help the community, the LaRue County Chamber of Commerce is looking for Kentucky State Fair volunteers.
