  • ANNIVERSARY: Powells celebrate 50 years

     Margie and Sam Powell will celebrate their 50th wedding anniversary on June 1, 2012.

    Sandra Braden, Betty and Don Vance, Helen Gressel and Kathryn Corbin will host a reception in their honor on Saturday, June 9.

    The reception will be 2-4 p.m. in the fireside room at First Baptist Church Hodgenville, 730 Tonieville Road.

    All friends and relatives are invited.

    The couple requests no gifts.

    Outstanding volunteers and donors gathered May 7 to celebrate United Way of Central Kentucky's record-breaking 2011 campaign. This "thank you" event recognized the volunteers and leadership donors from their five-county region who provide the backbone for UWCK’s success.

    Sarah Miller, supply manager for Dow Corning Global Procurement and United Way employee campaign manager, won the Voice of LaRue County award.

  • New job training available for veterans

     Unemployed veterans aged 35 to 60 may qualify for up to 12 months of job training through the new Veterans Retraining Assistance Program.

    VRAP will provide training for programs of education that lead to a high-demand occupation. The program, a joint effort of the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs and Department of Labor, will start July 1.

  • Regional job fair to be hosted in Elizabethtown

     Lincoln Trail Career Centers and the Hardin County Chamber of Commerce will host a regional job and career fair 10 a.m.-3 p.m. May 31 at the Pritchard Community Center, 404 South Mulberry Street, US 62, in Elizabethtown.

    Available positions vary and include customer service representatives, police officers, college instructors, health and medical positions, mechanical engineers, package handlers and sales representatives, among others.
