Two years ago, the future of Central Kentucky Community Action Council, Inc., was uncertain. The agency was experiencing significant financial difficulties, which resulted to changes in their transportation program for senior citizens and to their Head Start program in an effort to reduce expenses. At that time, Lynn Robey, executive director of Central Kentucky Community Action, spoke with government agencies in Marion and surrounding counties and asked for additional financial support in hopes of getting the agency back on its feet.
Eli Marcum, 5, was diagnosed with a brain tumor on Sept. 11, 2014, and since then has had multiple rounds of chemotherapy and brain surgeries. A port was installed to drain fluid off of Eli’s brain, caused by a cyst that formed around the tumor.
After hearing about his struggle, the family’s neighbor, Tabitha Smith felt moved to do something “more than just pray.” She decided to form a group, called Heroes for Eli to conduct fundraisers for the family and provide updates to people who care for Eli.
Lila Williams returned home last Monday after being in rehab at Sunrise Manor Nursing Home. Edith Reed, a relative of Mary E. Smith of Hodgenville, was admitted to the nursing home in Horse Cave. Kaye Curle and Yvette Best had surgery at Hardin Memorial Hospital last week.
The Kentucky Association Pastors’ Conference at First Baptist Elizabethtown will be Feb. 17-20.
Feb. 22 is Black History Sunday.
