    Saturday afternoon at Sunrise Manor, the Rev. George Nelson and Pleasant Run Baptist Church was the guest.

    Everyone really enjoyed the songs of praise and the inspiring words from the Rev. Nelson. The Rev. James Barleston, retired, visited First Baptist Church on Sunday with his wife and daughter. He recently retired as pastor of Maple Street Baptist Church, Somerset, and is former moderator of the South District and Auxiliaries.

    Out and about in Hodgenville: Congratulations to Jimmy and Janis Rogers on their 50th wedding anniversary.

    On July 25, I spent the day with good friend Daphne Hatcher in Campbellsville; we ate out at Creek Side. Happened to run into friends Mike and Jean Judd, and it was so great to see them. I talked to Carrie Kidd over the weekend, who told me her brother, Eugene DeSpain of Gray, Tenn., had died on July 17.

  • Laundry-detergent packets pose poison threat to young, old

    Although single-load laundry detergent packets have been on the market since 2012, children and even some senior citizens continue to be exposed to and poisoned by them.

    Poison centers have received so many calls that the American Association of Poison Control Centers continues to warn about them, even after issuing its first warning three years ago.

    Back to School Supply Closet

    A back-to-school supply closet will be open from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Aug. 1 at the LaRue County Extension Office for LaRue County students in kindergarten through 12th grade. Bring a supply list and the names of each student’s teachers. For more information, call 270-401-9224.

  • Cooking Corner - Pecan Pie Cookies

    Pecan Pie Cookies

    1 prepared single pie crust (homemade or purchased, I used Pillsbury)  

    3 tablespoons butter, melted  

    1/2 cup pecans, chopped  

    1/3 cup brown sugar  

    1/4 cup corn syrup  

    2 eggs  

    1/2 teaspoon salt

    Optional

    1/4 cup semi sweet or milk chocolate chip for decorating

    Preheat oven to 400  degrees.
