    Roadblock for Santa Claus

    The Santa’s Helpers will hold a roadblock 9 a.m. to noon Oct. 18 at Lincoln Plaza and Save-A-Lot shopping center intersections. Funds will be used to purchase toys for local children at Christmas.

    Fall recycling event

    Fall Recycling Day will be 8 a.m.-noon Oct. 18 at the LaRue County Maintenance Garage across from LaRue County High School. Any metal items, computer parts, cell phones, electronics, motor vehicles or equipment batteries will be accepted. There is a charge for tire disposal.   • Glendale Crossing Festival is this weekend

    More than 375 booths will welcome thousands of visitors Saturday at the annual Glendale Crossing Festival, according to Sheree Vance, festival chairwoman.

    The day will begin with the parade at 10 a.m. Those interested in participating in the parade are asked to be at the field at East Hardin Middle School before 9:30 a.m. Horses, four wheelers and throwing candy are not permitted.

    This year’s grand marshal is the family of Jonathan French, who died in the line of duty as a member of the Glendale Volunteer Fire Department in August.

    Glenn Wilkinson passed away Thursday at Ephraim McDowell Hospital, Danville. He’s the father of Rev. Jerry Wilkinson.

    Rev. Jeff Yucom, the associate minister of First Baptist Springfield was the guest speaker at First Baptist. Newly-appointed Bishop Marvin Thomas and Presiding Elder Roy Reid visited Lane Lincoln last Wednesday to meet the members of the church.

  • Locals perform in ‘To Kill a Mockingbird’

    The Hardin County Playhouse is staging a production of Harper Lee’s To Kill a Mockingbird this weekend, 7 p.m. Thursday through Saturday, and 3 p.m. Sunday.

    Two Hodgenville residents have roles in the show, with Gordon Thomas portraying Reverend Sykes and Mitch Curry as Mr. Cunningham.

    General admission tickets are $18.

    The Haycraft family reunion is Oct. 18 at the Brown-Pusey House, Elizabethtown. Registration and tour of the Hardin County History Museum is at noon. Kids Corner (fun and games). Bring a dish. Potluck at 4 p.m. Auction at 7 p.m. Bring family photos, memorabilia and souvenirs.

  • Rocky Horror comes to Bardstown

    n the early 1970s, an English voice actor, writer, and theatre performer, named Richard O’Brien, had a bold idea for a humorous tribute to the science fiction and B horror movies of the late 1940s through early 1970s. He envisioned a musical, which tells the story of a newly engaged couple who get caught in a thunderstorm, and come to a castle which happens to be the home of a mad transvestite scientist unveiling his new creation, a muscle man named Rocky Horror.

    Kyle and Jessica Doty of Upton announce the birth of a daughter, Amelia Cheyenne Doty at 8:23 a.m. on Sept. 25, 2014, at Hardin Memorial Hospital.

    Amelia Cheyenne weighed 7 pounds 10 ounces and was 20-inches long.

    Maternal grandparents are Ricky and Beth Keith of Magnolia; Melissa Edmonds of Cecilia; and Tony and Rachel Thompson of Cecilia.

    Paternal grandparents are Randal Sallee Jr. and Lisa Sallee of Upton; and Kenneth Doty of Elizabethtown.
