Hosparus needs volunteers in the central Kentucky area and will offer a free training session, 9 a.m. to 5 p.m., Thursday, Nov. 21 (lunch provided) at its Elizabethtown office, 105 Diecks Dr. Counties served by Hosparus Central Kentucky include Breckinridge, Bullitt, Grayson, Hardin, LaRue and Meade. Volunteers can choose the areas where they want to volunteer.
Susan G. Komen Louisville received a sizeable donation from the second annual Burger King Breast Cancer Truck and Tractor Pull. The two-day event was held Oct. 11 and 12 at the Hardin County Fairgrounds near Glendale in conjunction with the Battle of the Bluegrass Truck and Tractor pull series championship. Drivers and fans came together from as far away as California to support the fundraiser.
In all, $19,365.27 was donated to the cancer research foundation.
Last year, the Consumer Federation of America and the Credit Union National Association found that 12 percent of people said they were planning to spend more during the holidays than in the previous year. Snookie Morrison and the Santa’s Helpers are planning their 47th Christmas Eve bus run.
This year, they are accepting early signups for toys and clothing for children.
If you plan to attend the Christmas Eve run, sign up between 10 a.m. and 2 p.m. Saturday at the LaRue County Fairgrounds.
The Helpers are having a clothing giveaway on the grounds that day and will be happy to assist, said Morrison.
