  • Engagement: Bunnell - Wooden

    Paul and Paula Bunnell of Sonora announce the engagement and forthcoming marriage of their daughter, Laura Bunnell of Sonora to Jason Wooden of Elizabethtown, son of Debra Wooden of Elizabethown, and Cecil Wooden of Elizabethtown.

    The bride-to-be is a 2003 graduate of Central Hardin High School and is employed as a deputy clerk at the Hardin County Circuit Clerk’s Office.

    The prospective groom is a 2000 graduate of LaRue County High School and is employed as a mechanic at Big-O-Tires,

  • 50 years for Harold and Evelyn Cruse

    Harold and Evelyn Cruse of Sonora celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary on Sept. 5, 2014.

    Their family and friends honored them with an anniversary card shower, which was put together for them in a memory book. They also had a special family celebration in honor of such a remarkable milestone.

    Harold and Evelyn are the parents of Shonda Beeler (Elroy) and Fabian Cruse of Sonora. They have one granddaughter and two great grandchildren.

    Kyle DeVary of Hodgenville is the winner of the Gerald T. McCubbin Memorial Scholarship in the amount of $500, sponsored by Magnolia Bank.

    The scholarship is awarded based on school activities, club memberships, community activities, scholastic honors and achievements. Also, applicants write a one-page essay on how their education will benefit humanity.

    DeVary graduated from LCHS in May and will be attending Western Kentucky University and pursuing a degree in agri-business.

    Stephen and Samantha Brown are proud to announce the birth of a son, Raylan Elijah Brown, born July 30, 2014, at Twentynine Palms Naval Hospital, Twentynine Palms, California.

    Raylan Elijah weighed 9 pounds 14 ounces and was 22.5 inches long.

    Maternal grandparents are Tim and Teresa Robertson of Hodgenville; paternal grandparents are Israel and Rhonda Brown.

    The children of Mark Koenig and Stephanie West would like to announce the forthcoming marriage of their parents on Sept. 13, 2014.

    Their children are Brook Koenig, Mark Koenig Jr., Bryson Boergett and Madison West.

    The union will take place at 2 p.m. at Hodgenville Christian Church.

    The bride-to-be is the granddaughter of Wanda West and the late Harold “Mel” West.

  • Sunrise Volunteers

    Next door to the old Sunrise Manor Nursing Home is a building that is still being used by Sunrise Manor. This building is the daycare center. Elderly persons stay there while their sons and daughters or guardians work in the daytime.

    I’ll bet you didn’t know that every Wednesday from 11 a.m. until noon, Sunrise Volunteers visit the elderly at the facility.

    Volunteers sing songs, tell jokes and stories and read articles. Volunteers and day time residents enjoy each other’s company and fun is had by all.

     Brentley Williams, the 17-month-old grandson of Randy and Janice Williams, and son of Micha and Harley Williams of Elizabethtown, was the winner of the 13-24 month baby contest at the Heartland Baby Contest on Aug. 23. He's held by his grandfather, Randy.

  • Volunteers needed for Foster Care Review Board

     Citizen Foster Care Review Boards in Bullitt, Hart, LaRue, Marion and Washington counties are seeking volunteers to make a difference in the lives of local children in foster care. Volunteers are needed to review cases of children placed in foster care because of dependency, neglect or abuse to ensure these children are placed in safe, permanent homes as quickly as possible. Volunteers are not required to reside in the county where a board meets.
