  • CHAMBER: Golf scramble planned for April 25

     It’s time to play.

    The LaRue County Chamber of Commerce’s 20th annual golf scramble is Friday, April 25 at the LaRue County Golf Course.

    This year’s golf scramble is sponsored by Fort Knox Federal Credit Union, LaRue Insurance and Lincoln National Bank.

    This is a time for our members and community to enjoy some fun in the sun and support the Chamber in its biggest fundraiser. Players who prepay by April 15 will receive a discount. Entry fees are $60 for individuals and $240 for a team of four.

     National Library Week

    The LaRue County Public Library will celebrate National Library Week April 14-18 with several events.

    Monday, April 14 

    Return library items with no fines. It’s time to dig in your closest and look under your bed for overdue library items. All items overdue one day or several years can be returned with no fines.

  • COLUMN: Energy saving tips

     Lighting is an easy place to start saving energy. Replacing your five most frequently used light fixtures or the bulbs in them with Energy Star qualified lights can save more than $65 a year in energy costs. Turning off just one 60- watt incandescent bulb that would otherwise burn eight hours a day can save about $15 per year.

  • Bluegrass Pipeline awards grant to Park and Rec

     LaRue County Park and Recreation is one of 21 groups awarded a grant from Bluegrass Pipeline.

    The money will be used for a restroom project.

    More than $160,000 has been given to 43 organizations in Kentucky and Ohio to fund projects in counties traversed by the pipeline project. These grants are in addition to those awarded earlier this year.

    New Hope Fire Department will have a fish fry 4-8 p.m. April 4 and 11 at New Hope Ball Park. Cost is $7 plate or $3 for sandwich. Carry out or dine in.

  • Mather to appear in 'Charlotte's Web,' directing second project

    Ian Mather, a 2010 graduate of LaRue County High School and current senior at Savannah College of Art and Design in Georgia, has accepted a position with the McLeod Summer Playhouse at Southern Illinois University in Carbondale, Ill.  Mather will play the starring role of Wilbur in the playhouse’s production of Charlotte’s Web, and will also have roles in Oklahoma and Spamalot.
