Preliminary work begins this week as Kentucky Transportation Cabinet contract crews realign curves and resurface a section of U.S. 31-E near the Lincoln Boyhood Home, according to Chris Jessie, spokesperson for the Cabinet. A contract was awarded to Salsman Brothers, Inc., of Bardstown for $2,194,656 worth of improvements, providing a safer and more efficient route through the corridor connecting Hodgenville and Bardstown.
Signs are being installed near the project as crews prepare to lay cross drains beginning the week of March 10 on Enlow’s Curve.
Water line relocation is also taking place through the project limits, which is scheduled for completion by April 15.
Motorists are urged to use additional caution when traveling Bardstown Road between Hodgenville and New Haven and minimize driving distractions. Alternating one-way traffic will be utilized throughout the project with the use of temporary signals.
The entire project is scheduled to be complete by Sept. 1.
