A search and rescue effort ended Sunday afternoon in LaRue County when emergency personnel found a missing women dead.
911 Director Dennis Wells said Valerie Holt, 28, of Lyons Station, and a man were riding a four-wheeler at Otter Creek near Wayne Ennis Road when they lost control in a flash flood.
The water swept the four-wheeler away, he said, and Holt disappeared under the water. The man was was able to get out of the water, Wells said.
Emergency responders were contacted at 11:57 p.m. Saturday, according to LaRue County Fire Chief Jason Sadler. Buffalo Fire Department led the search with assistance from LaRue County Fire Department, Magnolia Fire Department and search and rescue teams from Nelson and Taylor counties.
According to Sadler, 55 personnel participated in the search.
Holt's body was taken to the Medical Examiner's office in Louisville to be autopsied.
Funeral arrangements are pending at Joseph L. Greenwell Funeral Home in New Haven.
