Winter makes spring more inviting

-A A +A

Adversity brings great appreciation of blessings

By Shirley Jones

“For we know that all things work together for good, to those who love God, to those who are called according to his purpose.” Romans 8:28

“If we had no winter, the spring would not be so pleasant; if we did not sometimes taste of adversity, prosperity would not be so welcome.”

I saw this quote somewhere in my studies not long ago and realized how true it is. I do not like winter. It is an unnecessary season in my opinion. But that is my opinion — it’s a great thing that God knew better when he created the seasons. He truly knew what he was doing. When it is dreary in December or January, remember that spring would not be so pleasant without experiencing the winter.

So it is in life as well. The adversity we face causes us to welcome the times of God’s blessing in our life. It is when we come through a time of trial that we understand the verse, “For we know that all things work together for good, to those who love God, to those who are called according to his purpose.”

Winter? Only makes the spring more welcome.

Adversity? Only makes sense occasionally, but it is after these things that we welcome his blessing which is too easy to take for granted otherwise.
