Where customers are family

Customers are treated like family at one LaRue County hair salon.

Glenda’s Corner Curl is located on 1397 Old Elizabethtown Road in Hodgenville. The business offers a wide variety of cuts and hairstyles including perms, bobs and many more.

Owner Glenda Burba said she has been a hairdresser for 55 years and that her customers have become like her family throughout her career.

“They are friends and family, not just clientele,” Burba said. That’s why I don’t retire because I want to be with them. If I retired I wouldn’t see a lot of them anymore.”

Burba said she has been interested in hairdressing since high school and knew that is what she wanted to do as a career.

“When I was in high school, I would give a lot of the girls cuts and perms,” Burba said. “I fell in love with it and pursued my dreams. Now here I am after 55 years still doing what I love. It’s amazing.”

After graduating from beauty school 55 years ago, Burba said she worked part-time as a hairdresser for about 20 years and that she opened up her own shop more than 35 years ago.

“My shop is in my home. It’s turned out to be a blessing and it’s great to have it in my home,” Burba said. “I don’t have any lost time. If someone cancels an appointment, I can use the time to clean and do other stuff.”

Burba said another thing she does is help others by giving hairstyles to people in need.

“I give away a lot of free cuts to those who can’t afford it,” Burba said. “Either myself or my husband, Tom, will also go and pick up older ladies who can’t drive or don’t have a way. It my way of giving back.”

Glenda’s Corner Curl is open Wednesdays through Saturdays with varying hours each day. Burba said she is closed Monday and Tuesday, but Wednesdays through Saturdays she is typically open from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. for walk-ins or appointments.
