For the second time today, LaRue County residents have been alerted to the possibility of dangerous weather conditions.
The National Weather Service has issued a tornado watch for much of Kentucky this afternoon. A series of storms could batter the area into the evening hours. The various fronts already have battered western parts of Kentucky, Tennessee and Alabama today.Hail, heavy lightning and funnel cloudshave been reportedwith this stormand a tornado was confirmed in Kentuckynear Mannington in Christian County. The National Weather Service also reports tornado sightings and damage reports in Murfreesboro and Lebanon in middle Tennessee. The current watch, which lasts until6 p.m.,has been issued by NWS' Storm Prediction Center for an area stretching Cincinnati to Evansville and as far south as Nashville.
LaRue County was one of 16 Kentucky counties covered by an alert issued early this morningissued by the National Weather Service. That thunderstorm watch stretched was issued as abroad line of storms formed and moved through the area before daybreak. The watchwas canceledbefore dawnwhen the storm's intensity quieted.
Be alert to changing conditions today, have emergency equipment such as flashlights handy and take shelter if necessary.
