Weather: Icy roads and wildfires

-A A +A

Crews stayed busy Sunday night through Tuesday, trying to clear snow and ice from the roadways. LaRue County was hit with about a half-inch of ice, followed by 2-inches of snow. Several vehicles slid off the roadway Sunday evening. Monday afternoon, emergency crews responded to the scene of an all-terrain vehicle rollover near First Baptist Church at 730 Tonieville Road. One person was transported to the hospital by ambulance. The LaRue County Sheriff’s office is investigating. No further information is available.

Local firefighters have been busy the last two weeks fighting field and brush fires.
LaRue County Fire Chief Jason Sadler estimates that his crew of volunteers has been on nine runs – some of them back-to-back. Almost every area of the county has been affected, from Hibernia to Gleanings to Parkers Grove Road to Salem Church Road to Castleman Road.
The spate of fires was preceded by a barn fire, believed to have been caused by an electrical short, said Sadler. Darrell Sprowls’ barn and several farm implements were a complete loss.
