Abraham Lincoln Birthplace National Historical Park is holding several volunteer orientation training days for individuals looking to volunteer at the park’s visitor center information desk.
Classes are limited to eight prospective volunteers. Those wishing to participate are asked to call the park’s visitor center to make a reservation. The required training class is free and spots will be reserved on a first come, first served basis.
• Noon to 4 p.m., Thursday, March 21
• Noon to 4 p.m. Friday, March 22
• 8 a.m. to noon, Saturday, March 23
• 8 a.m. to noon, Saturday, April 6
Prospective volunteers will learn about the National Park Service’s history and about the history and formation of the park. The training will include a tour of the park grounds and facilities. Additional training classes will be added in the future as the need arises.
“We are very excited about the community’s interest in our park’s volunteer program,” said Bill Justice, park superintendent. “Many people braved the weather on March 5 to show their support and learn more about volunteering. We look forward to working together to develop a great team of volunteers.”
The park will also host a Park Clean Up Day on Saturday, April 27 in conjunction with “National Park Week.” Volunteers will be needed to help with cleaning up trails and park grounds. Anyone interested in this event is encouraged to check the park’s website for more details.
