VOLLEYBALL: Lady Hawks take fourth at tourney

-A A +A

The annual Bowling Green Purple Classic Volleyball Tournament took place Sept. 21-22.

The Lady Hawks started out strong with two match wins (Warren East, 25-14, 25-18 and Fort Campbell, 25-6, 25-11), and one tie against Muhlenberg County (19-25,25-11).

The Lady Hawks then faced Owensboro. While they never lost the lead and won both games of the match (25-20,26-24), the second game was so close that I had to remind myself to keep taking pictures and stop watching the game.

The next game, against the home team, Bowling Green Purples, did not go as well.  The Lady Hawks lost both sets (25-11, 25-13) in the semi finals. They placed fourth overall.

Congratulations to Coach Ben Schell, who now has 101 victories since becoming the volleyball coach at LaRue County High School in 2008.

While the Lady Hawks did not receive top honors in the tournament, it must be noted that when it came to sportsmanship, camaraderie, and encouragement to fellow teammates they were certainly number one.
