Bill Wilcox can honestly say he’s worth a million – in miles, that is.

Wilcox was inducted Friday morning into the National Safety Council’s Million Mile Club — an honor reserved for employees driving 1 million miles, or 30 years, without an at-fault accident. He’s the first letter carrier in Upton to receive the honor.

“This is a huge accomplishment,” said Officer in Charge Patrick Gray. “He carries a 92-mile route five days a week. That’s a lot of miles to travel every day for 30 years.”

Wilcox was recognized for his accomplishments during a ceremony at the Upton Post Office.

Gray was joined by former Upton Postmaster Brenda Carroll and acting manager, Post Office Operations, Rosemary Miller in presenting Wilcox with the award.

“Driving more than a million miles without a preventable accident is such an amazing fete,” Gray said.. “I’m extremely proud of Bill for putting safety and service first.”
