Upcoming fall sewing classes

Master Clothing Volunteer, Rosa Smith, will be offering a multi-week class schedule for beginning adult sewing through the rest of the fall. The classes will be held on Tuesday afternoons at the LaRue County Extension Service office on 807 Old Elizabethtown Road in Hodgenville.

1-3 p.m. Oct. 27: Body Shape, Style and Pattern Size

This session will help you answer: what is my body shape, what style looks best on me, how and where do I take the right body measurements, what pattern figure type classification am I, how do I pick the right pattern size and how to read the pattern envelope and what does it all mean.

1-3 p.m. Nov. 3: Fitting a Pattern to my Body

This session will demonstrate: how to know the changes you need to make in a pattern, methods for altering patterns and when to use them (internal method, external method, pivot and slide method).

1-3 p.m. Nov. 17: Getting to Know Your Sewing Machine

Bring your own machine and get help in learning how it all works. Information will include interfacings and needle types.

1-4 p.m. Dec. 1: Hands-on altering a pattern, Making a Skirt

Beginning sewing class, make a skirt using skills from the pattern fitting class

1-3 p.m. Dec. 8: Serger 101 Class

Beginners class for using a Serger; will cover threading, tension control and testing your own machine

1-4 p.m. Dec. 15: Hands-on altering a pattern, Making a Top

Beginning sewing class

In January, she will offer a Serger 102 Class and how to Makeover a Sweatshirt into a Jacket, dates to be announced. If you have other sewing class topics you’d liketo  see offered in January or February, please let us know.
