Eighth-grader Jackson Venegas and seventh-grader Ramisha Jakes were LaRue County's top performers in the middle school state track championships.
Venegas' throw of 118 feet, 2 inches in the discus competition was good for third place in the boys' competiton.
Jakes tied for fifth place in the girls' high jump in the May 9 meet at Paul Dunbar High School in Lexington. Her winning distance for 4 feet, 4 inches.
Their performances accounted for all of the team's points, which were awarded based on top finishes in the events.
LCMS fielded participants in nearly all of the meet's 38 events, providing experience for the local athletes. The meet is staged annually by the Kentucky Track and Cross Country Coaches Association.
