A Hodgenville man faces two counts of murder after a collision that left two people dead Sunday.
Earl Dale Richardson, 46, was driving a 1997 Chevrolet Blazer south on Lincoln Parkway (Ky. 61) about 6:30 p.m., according to Kentucky State Police. The Blazer struck a 2004 Nissan Sentra in the passenger side as it traveled west on Roundtop Road (Ky. 1135) in an attempt to cross Ky. 61.
The impact caused both vehicles to exit the southwest corner of the roadway.
Johnie M. Dennis, 75, of Elizabethtown, and his passenger, Luevenia Dennis, 71, were pronounced dead at the scene by the Hardin County Coroner.
Earl Richardson and his son, Earl Richardson Jr., 10, were transported to Hardin Memorial Hospital by Hardin County EMS. They were treated and released.
All four people in the crash were wearing seatbelts, according to KSP.
Police suspected that alcohol was a factor in the crash.
Earl Richardson was charged early Monday with operating a motor vehicle while under the influence of alcohol with aggravating circumstances; two counts of murder; no operators license; failure to maintain insurance; possession of open alcoholic beverage container in motor vehicle; first-degree wanton endangerment; and tampering with physical evidence.
Trooper Jeffrey Gregory said Richardson had purchased beer earlier in the evening.
“After the accident he left his vehicle and attempted to hide the beer in a ditch line so it wouldn’t be seen by the responding officers,” said Richardson.
He was lodged in the Hardin County Detention Center and was arraigned Monday in Hardin District Court Division 1.
Trooper Brad Riley is handling the investigation. The Central Hardin Fire Department assisted at the scene.
