Trick-or-Treat is Oct. 31
Pre-registration required for costume contest
The annual Trick-or-Treat on Lincoln Square will be Halloween night, Oct. 31. Children in the community will be able to enjoy a safe and fun holiday by visiting the many tour stops sponsored by local businesses.
This very popular event has grown over the past few years to now involve over 1,000 children each year. The costume contest, sponsored by the LaRue County Chamber of Commerce, is also very popular, but Chamber Director Rita Williams said one change this year should make the event move along in a much more efficient manner.
All contestants for the costume contest must pre-register at the chamber office by noon on Oct. 31. There will be a $2 penalty for late registration. Williams said registering children before the contest has been “way too hectic.”
Categories for the costume contest are cutest, funniest, ugliest/scariest and most original for ages 3-and-under, ages 4-5, ages 6-9. ages 9-12, ages 12-18 and 18-and-above. Children may only enter one category in their age group. Parents may pick up an application at the chamber office on the square to register their children for the competition. There is a $3 fee to enter.
Late registration after noon on Oct. 31 is $5.
There is no charge for a business to become a tour stop. However, businesses also must pre-register so that organizers can plan for the correct number of stops along the route. Businesses who have participated in the past have already received registration forms. Businesses must register by Oct. 22.
