Trafficking charges filed against Hodgenville man

Arraignment scheduled for Feb. 2

A Hodgenville man, just released from jail after serving a year for first-degree possession of controlled substance, has been indicted by a LaRue County grand jury on trafficking charges.

Wayne A. Canter, 52, of Landmark Apartments, was indicted on one count of trafficking in controlled substances, first degree, trafficking in controlled substances within 1,000 yards of a school and trafficking in controlled substances, third degree Jan. 5. The offenses allegedly occurred last February. He is accused of selling marijuana and Klonopin – a prescription medication used to treat panic disorders.

He will be arraigned Feb. 2 in LaRue Circuit Court.

The case is investigated by Kentucky State Police.

Other indictments

Besides Canter, four other people were indicted by a LaRue County grand jury the same day.

David R. Staples (1971) of Upton was indicted on one count of persistent felony offender, first degree. Staples was previously convicted of wanton endangerment, first degree; fleeing or evading police, first degree; driving on DUI suspended license, first offense and third offense; second degree trafficking in controlled substance, operating a motor vehicle while under the influence of alcohol or drugs, second offense; possession of marijuana; no insurance; and trafficking in marijuana, in LaRue and Hardin counties.

Bail remains the same as district court charges. Arraignment is Feb. 2 in LaRue Circuit Court.

Chad T. Frith (1975) of Hodgenville was indicted on one count of assault, first degree; wanton endangerment first degree; and endangering the welfare of a minor, first degree. The offenses allegedly occurred Sept. 18, 2008. Frith is accused of causing serious physical injury to an infant.

Bond remains the same as district court charges and Frith is required to stay away from and have no contact with the alleged victim.

Arraignment is Feb. 2 in LaRue Circuit Court.

Andrea M. Lee (1963) of Elizabethtown was indicted on one count of flagrant nonsupport. Lee is accused of owing $14,191.63 in child support from Dec. 14, 2001 to Oct. 31, 2008.

Arraignment is Feb. 2 in LaRue Circuit Court. Bond is the same as set in district court.

Bridget L. Smith (1981) of Sonora was indicted on 13 counts of forgery in the second degree. She is accused of forging the signature of another woman on checks paid for goods to LaRue County businesses. The checks totaled over $1,300.

Bail is set at $9,500 cash only on condition of no contact with her alleged victim.

Arraignment is Feb. 2 in LaRue Circuit Court.

The indictment of a person by a grand jury is an accusation only and the person is innocent until and unless proven guilty.
