The girl in the series is seeking to destroy those who wrongfully accused her father for something he didn't do, leading to his incarceration and death.  Revenge is one of the most primitive of human instincts. If we are unjustly criticized by someone we work with, made the victim in a crime we didn't commit, slandered by lies of others, or had someone we love taken from us by sensual actions of another, our gut response is to want revenge.
