Lincoln Days, Inc. will celebrate the 205th birthday of Abraham Lincoln at its annual Lincoln Birthday lunch on Wednesday, Feb. 12.
The luncheon will be noon to 1 p.m. at Ovesen Heights Baptist Church, 1604 Bardstown Road, Hodgenville.
Tickets are $15 per person and can be purchased in advance at the Lincoln Museum, 66 Lincoln Square, Hodgenville. For more information, call 270-358-3163. Advanced ticket purchases are recommended. A limited number will be available at the door.
Ray’s Hodgenville Grill will cater the meal that includes roast beef, potatoes, green beans, salad, rolls, drink, and dessert.
The luncheon will feature a performance by Lincoln Presenter Jim Sayre, who will present excerpts from Lincoln’s speeches and letters, as well as anecdotes about the 16th president. Sayre has dedicated the past 30 years to bringing Lincoln’s speeches and actions to life. He has spoken to churches, schools, conventions, and has brought his unique storytelling skills to national parks across the country, including Gettysburg National Military Park and the Abraham Lincoln Birthplace National Historical Park.
Sayre is a featured performer with the Kentucky Humanities Council Chautauqua Series and has performed as Lincoln to local, regional, as well as international audiences. Sayre is also the recipient of the 2009 Lincoln Days Richard Burks award that recognizes significant contributions to preserving the heritage of LaRue County and Abraham Lincoln’s legacy.
The Lawrenceburg native began his portrayal of Lincoln in 1983 and has garnered numerous first-place awards for his portrayal of the president. He is a life member of the Association of Lincoln Presenters, an organization dedicated to the preservation of the legacy of Abraham Lincoln.
Abraham Lincoln Birthplace National Historical Park Superintendent William Justice will also speak about upcoming projects at the park and Lincoln’s Boyhood Home at Knob Creek.
