Three men were injured in a one-vehicle crash early Saturday about four miles north of Hodgenville after their vehicle slammed into a tree.

Just before 3 a.m., Justin Masterson, 20, of Sonora was driving southbound on U.S. 31E in a 1997 Ford pickup when he ran off the left side of the roadway and hit a tree, according to Kentucky State Police. Masterson was flown to University Hospital in Louisville and was listed in serious condition in intensive care Monday evening.

A landing zone was set up for Life Net in a field near the wreck site.

The crash took place at the intersection with Salem Church Road, however, a second vehicle was not involved in the crash, according to KSP.

Masterson’s passenger, Christopher McDaniel, 20, of Glendale was taken to Hardin Memorial Hospital with non-life-threatening injuries, according to KSP. He later was transferred to University Hospital.

Both Masterson and McDaniel had to be cut from the vehicle – a process that took about 45 minutes.

A second passenger, 21-year-old Kyle Quiggins of Elizabethtown, also sustained injuries, but refused treatment, the police news release said.

LaRue County Fire Department, Buffalo Fire Department and LaRue County EMS also responded to the scene.

Trooper Michael Garyantes investigated.
