The first day of the 5th Region tennis tournament brought local teams some wins and some losses, but more importantly, uninterrupted play despite rain showers earlier Friday.
First-round play in the girls’ draws from the Elizabethtown Community and Technical College courts saw LaRue County advance three of four entrants into Monday’s second round, including both doubles squads.
No. 7 seed Paige Nalley of LaRue County upset Hannah Rogers, Bethlehem Banshee’s No. 2 singles player, 6-2, 6-0.
Maddie Lee fell to Central Hardin’s Emily Novak, 6-0, 6-0.
In doubles play, LaRue’s Amelia Miller and Haylee Best defeated North Hardin’s Bre Richard and Lele Parker, 6-2, 6-0. Amanda Adyani and Caitlin Lewis defeated Fort Knox’s Brittany Brownell and Briana Quichocho, 6-0, 6-0 (default).
In boys singles’ first-round play, LaRue’s Dylan Parr defeated John Drury, 6-0, 6-0, while Jeremy Contreras fell 6-3, 6-4 to Taylor County’s Justin Smith.
In boys’ doubles, LaRue’s Brett Gozzard and Zach Lee defeated Washington County’s Stewart Young and David Haydon, 6-0, 6-0.
Bo Haun and Ryan Abell defeated Washington County’s Jordan Simpson and Chris Carrico, 6-0, 6-0.
