Teacher, daughter identified as Botland victims

Kathy Netherland and her daughter were killed in a double homicide, Kentucky State Police Post Four investigators released today just after 5 p.m.

"Based on investigations and autopsies performed this morning at the State Medical Examiner’s Office, both deaths are being ruled as homicides," the release said. "The cause of death will not be released at this time."

Investigators are asking any individuals or businesses located between Botland and Bardstown that have recorded video surveillance of Springfield Road contact them. Detectives can be reached at (270) 766-5078.

Police responded to the Netherlands' home at 5120 Springfield Road around 10:40 a.m. Tuesday after a 911 call reported two individuals in the home possibly unconscious or dead.

Police have not released the name of the second victim, stating only that she was a 16-year-old. Multiple sources have identified her as Kathy's daughter, Samantha, a Bardstown High School student.

The Standard has independently verified that Samantha attended school Monday. Police said the mother and daughter were discovered by a relative who went to check on one of them who failed to show up for school Tuesday morning.

Police have also not released the cause of death for both victims.
