Contest gives a camera to winner

National Trust for Historic Preservation says: Take a picture of a place that matters to you; win a digital camera and fame for your special place.

Here’s an unusual offer. Most people have a place or places that are special to them. Maybe they are very old or have been in their family for many years. Maybe they have historic significance or there is some other factor of great interest.

Too often places that matter to us can be lost in a heartbeat. The best way to save a place that matters is to call attention to it.

There will be a public online vote and the top three photos will win a digital camera and an Extreme III 8GB SD memory card. First place is a Panasonic Lumix ZS3 digital camera. The two runners-up will be awarded the Panasonic Lumix ZS1 camera. Maybe best of all, the photos will all be added to a pool of “places that matter across the country.”

To enter, go to This Place Matters Web site and use the free photo upload tool. Be sure to read all the rules at www.PreservationNation.org before entering. If you are 18 or older, you can enter as many digital photos as you wish between now and Sept. 15. Just download the “This Place Matters” sign, or make one of your own. Then take your picture in front of a place that matters to you. Choose your best shot for each place.

Good luck.

We’d love to see your pictures, too.
