Suspect in New Hope shooting arrested on drug charges

KSP reports finding drugs in residence

The Kentucky State Police have arrested a man on drug charges who is a suspect in conjunction with a shooting Monday that occurred in the St. Francis and New Hope areas of Nelson and Marion counties

According to a press release from the Columbia post of the KSP, Douglas Hutchins, St. Francis, is a suspect in a shooting that injured Michael Greenwell, 26, around 3 p.m. Monday. Greenwell was transported by EMS from his home in New Hope to the New Hope Fire Department and the flown to University Hospital in Louisville. He is listed in stable condition.

In the course of the KSP’s investigation, officers found drugs and paraphernalia at Hutchins' residence, which lead to his arrest. Hutchins has been charged with second-degree trafficking in a controlled substance, third-degree trafficking in a controlled substance, prescription drugs not in a proper container, cultivating marijuana, trafficking in marijuana and possession of paraphernalia.

Sheriff departments from Marion and Nelson counties are assisting the KSP in the investigation, which remains ongoing. The press release states that suspects in the shooting will be presented to a Marion County Grand Jury at a later date.

KSP spokesman David Gregory said investigators are still trying to work out the details of the case, including which suspects to charge.
