 Swimming pool open

The LaRue County swimming pool will operate through Aug. 4. Hours are 12:30 p.m. to 5 p.m. Tuesday through Saturday; and 1-5 p.m. Sunday. It is closed on Monday. Admission is $4 for children 11 and under; $6 for ages 12 and over. The pool is available for parties 6-9 p.m. for a cost of $175, an increase of $25 from last season.

Little league reunion

There will be a reunion of all men who played in the inaugural year of Little League (1956) 7 p.m. July 6 at LaRue County Park and Recreation. For more information, call Ed Lewis at 769-8290.

Youth Soccer Camp

Youth Soccer Camp will be held 7-8:30 p.m. July 17-18 and 7-9 p.m. July 19 at LaRue County High School for ages 3-9. Registration will be 6-8 p.m. July 9 and 10 at the LCHS cafeteria. The camp will be led by the LCHS girls soccer team.  Open to all levels of play, each child who attends will receive a LCHS Youth Soccer Camp T-shirt. The registration fee is $20. Poker run for Band of Hawks

The LaRue County Band of Hawks will have a poker run July 21. Registration starts at 8 a.m.; run begins at 10 a.m. The cost is $15-$20 per hand. Live concert, door prizes and more. Meal served is $5. For details, call Heather Johnson at 300-1200. 

Athletes need physicals before competing

Physicals will be given 6 p.m. July 11 at LaRue County High School for any LCHS or LCMS athlete needing one. Fee is $10. Forms will be available. If you are under the age of 18 you must have a parent or guardian present.

Volleyball tryouts

The LaRue County High School volleyball team will hold tryouts for girls entering grades 8-12 on July 16 and 17 in the LCHS gym. Tryouts will be 9-11 a.m. and 5-7 p.m. on both days. Players are required to attend both sessions. Players need to have a current KHSAA physical in order to tryout. Kentucky Amateur Softball Tournament

Kentucky Amateur Softball Association of America’s youth slow pitch tournament will be July 20-22 at the Thomason-Allen Softball Complex at Beville Park in Leitchfield. The event features top softball teams in the state in girls slow pitch 10U, 12U, 14U, 16U and 18U. 

The park is located off Western Kentucky Parkway, exit 107. Travel north, turning right at the first traffic light. The park is north in the 1000 block of William H. Thomason Byway.

Trooper Island Golf Scramble

Kentucky State Police Post 4 will hold the Trooper Island Golf Scramble on Aug. 10 at The Falls Golf Club, 57 Jennie Green Road, Falls of Rough. Registration is at 11 a.m. with shotgun start at 12:30 p.m. Entry fee is $60 per person or $240 per team. Lunch and one chance to win a 2012 Dodge Challenger are included. Door prizes. Bluegrass Cellular Heartland Festival 5K

Bluegrass Cellular will sponsor a 5K and one-mile fun run/walk Aug. 25 at the Heartland Festival in Elizabethtown. Proceeds benefit Hardin County schools. For more information, visit www.BluegrassCellular.com/5k. Advanced registration begins Aug. 1.

Kentucky State Arm Wrestling Championship

Kentucky State Arm Wrestling Championship takes place in Leitchfield during the Grayson County Fair on Labor Day weekend. The event starts at 1 p.m. Sept. 1 with the novice classes. The event features novice and pro classes by age category and a left-handed and woman’s class. Weigh-in is between 10 a.m. and 12:30 p.m. Pros have a $25 entry fee and all other class entry is $20, in addition to fair entry fees. LCHS Band Boosters meet

The LaRue County Band Boosters meet 7 p.m. the fourth Thursday of each month at the LaRue County High School Band Room. For more information, call John Wathen at 270-324-4259.
