Stars and Strikes Bowl-a-thon Kickoff Luncheon
The USA Cares Stars and Strikes Bowl-a-thon luncheon, sponsored by Furniture Liquidators, is Jan. 10 at the Pritchard Community Center, 404 S. Mulberry St., Elizabethtown. USA Cares spokesman Bryan Anderson, an Emmy Award winning actor, advocate, Iraq War veteran and Purple Heart recipient will speak. RSVP by logging on to usacares.org.
The Bowl-a-thon will be Feb. 22 through March 10 at varying times at Dix-E-Town Lanes, 4547 N. Dixie Hwy., Elizabethtown. Cost is $50 per bowler and includes two games of bowling, pizza and sweatshirt. To bowl, organize a team of four-to-five bowlers.
USA Cares assists post-9/11 service members, veterans and their families with financial and advocacy support. Proceeds from the Bowl-a-thon benefit soldiers from Kentucky in need of assistance for basic needs, post-traumatic stress disorder and traumatic brain injury treatment. Sign up at usacares.org.
Baseball Boosters hold spaghetti dinner and dessert auction
The LaRue County High School Baseball Boosters will hold a spaghetti supper and dessert auction fundraiser at 6 p.m. Jan. 19 at LCHS cafeteria. Doors open at 5:15 p.m. so fans can meet Steve Delabar, a pitcher of the Toronto Blue Jays. The Boosters will offer bats and photos for sale; fans can ask Delabar to sign them. Campbellsville University Baseball Coach Beauford Sanders is the guest speaker. Bids on a variety of homemade desserts will be taken after dinner.
Advance tickets are $10 for adults; $5 for ages 17 and under; or a family of four for $25.
Tickets at the door are $15 for adults; $10 ages 17 and under.
Bowl for Kids’ Sake
The kick-off luncheon for Bowl for Kids’ Sake is 11:30 a.m.-1 p.m. Jan. 24 at American Legion Hall, Ring Road, Elizabethtown. The event is a fundraiser for Big Brothers Big Sisters of Kentuckiana and will be March 15-17 and March 22-23 at Dix-E-Town Lanes. Mat Hawks Senior Night
The senior Mat Hawks and their families will be honored Jan. 30 at their last home meet. The team will face Oldham County. Wrestling begins at 6 p.m. with JV matches. The ceremony will begin about 6:30 p.m. Varsity action begins about 6:45 p.m.
Coach Gary Canter honored
Mat Coach Gary Canter will be honored at his final home match on Jan. 30. Canter has announced his plans to retire after this season. JV wrestling begins at 6 p.m.; a ceremony will be held about 6:30 p.m.; varsity wrestling begins about 6:45 p.m. All former wrestlers and their families are urged to attend.
Gridiron Alumni football is planning several full contact alumni games. Teams from LaRue County, Central Hardin and Elizabethtown are forming now. The games are set for early spring.
