The second half of a “split fair” or “Agriculture Day” will be held Saturday, Aug. 3.
4-Hers will display horticulture and crop exhibits 10 a.m.-noon at the LaRue County Fairgrounds. The 4-H poultry show is at 11 a.m. There are divisions for standard, bantam, waterfowl and other (turkey, guinea, geese).
Anyone from the community who would like to “show off their vegetables or canned goods” also can participate, according to Ann “Snookie” Morrison of the LaRue County Fair Board.
Entries will be taken between 10 a.m. and noon. They will be shown 1-4 p.m. at the Bobby Morrison-Jim Phelps building (the air conditioned building).
There is no charge to enter either the fairgrounds or the contests.
There will be plenty of “fun stuff” to do throughout the day, said Morrison, including face painting and tattoos for children; backseat driving contest; horsehoes and cornhole for all ages; basketball toss; and a prize walk (similar to a cake walk, except there are no cakes – only prizes).
The activities will be held 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. The backseat driver contest – canceled by rain during the LaRue County Fair in June, will be held at 2:30 p.m. A trophy and prizes will be available.
The pedal pull – planned previously – will not be held.
Awesome Events will provide concessions in the Morrison-Phelps building.
“It may be slow this year (since it is a new event),” said Morrison. “It’s all free – I hope everybody comes out.”
Santa’s Helper’s yard sale
A yard sale to benefit Santa’s Helpers will be Aug. 3 at the Will Morrison building at the LaRue County Fairgrounds. Donations are requested. The group is accepting clothing, baby items, toys, pictures, tools, furniture and miscellaneous.
