The third-ranked Louisville Mercy Jaguars aren’t an area team, but they claimed the unofficial area championship with a 3-0 showing against area teams Friday and Saturday in the 16-team TSOA Tournament at Meade-Olin Park in Brandenburg.
Mercy earned a 3-2 win over Meade County in Saturday evening’s semifinals after beating No. 19 Central Hardin in Saturday afternoon’s quarterfinals, 5-3. In pool play, Mercy no-hit LaRue County in five innings, 12-0 as the Lady Hawks committed five errors
The Lady Hawks dropped an 8-4 decision to Holy Cross in Saturday afternoon’s quarterfinals.
Junior Peyton Gardner went 1-for-3 with a two-run homer in the fifth inning which pulled the Lady Hawks within 8-3.
Junior Brigitte Skaggs and senior Kayla Skaggs each had one hit and one RBI, while freshman Delany Eastridge singled and scored.
The Lady Hawks wrapped up pool play with a 9-3 win against Corydon (Ind.) Central. Brigitte Skaggs (3-2) struck out five, walked one, scattered four singles and allowed just one earned run.
Junior Courtney Johnson tripled and drove in one, while Mallory Skaggs, Eastridge and sophomore Sierra Mullins each had two singles and one RBI.
In its lone pool game Friday, LaRue County beat Grayson County, 6-3, scoring three runs in the top of the seventh when the game went to the international tiebreaker (runner starts inning on second base) because of time constraints.
Johnson went 3-for-4 with a double, two RBIs and one run scored. Mallory Skaggs added two singles.
Brigitte Skaggs (2-2) struck out three.
