Recap of LaRue's recent action

By Charles Holloway

The LaRue County High School boys' soccer team have been on a successful run.

The boys defeated Kentucky School for the Deaf 2-0 Sept. 15; Campbellsville 5-1 Sept. 16; Monroe County 4-0 Sept. 19; and tied Fort Knox 0-0 Sept. 17.

In four varsity matches, the Hawks emerged with three shutouts and an 11 to 1 scoring margin.

In the Sept. 15 match, junior Dylan White sparked the offense with a shot five minutes into the second half. Freshman Killian Gorman executed give-and-go passing with White to dazzle the defense. KSD packed in the defense and the Hawks continued the attack, outshooting the opponents 23-0. White scored again from a penalty kick shot 10 minutes before the end of the game. Goalkeepers junior Bo Haun and senior Alex Wood combined for the shutout.

White continued his hot pace by scoring against a stubborn Campbellsville Eagle defense on Senior Night. He scored first with 10 minutes remaining in the first half with the assist to freshman Ricardo Collado. Freshman Alex Cook scored with 30 seconds left in the half with the assist to senior Todd Gozzard.

Brandon Dyson scored his fourth goal of the season after sprinting into open space and receiving a pass from Todd Gozzard. White added an assist by taking a free kick and placing the ball into the goalmouth. Alex Cook used his head and knocked the ball into the back netting.

Gorman finished the scoring with a wide crossfield pass from junior Brent Gozzard. This was a first as two brothers assisted a goal in the same game.

Thursday’s match with Fort Knox was tiring as the players were playing their third away game in three nights. No scoring in the varsity match as the defense played superb.

The Hawks were sluggish against Monroe but the attackers woke up in the second half quickly, as junior Dillon Walker scored on an assist from Dyson. Five minutes later, White rocketed a shot into the goal with the assist from Todd Gozzard. With 10 minutes left in the match, Haun launched a free kick from 30 yards into the net. Haun and Wood combined for the team’s ninth shutout of the season.

The junior varsity team worked hard last week, dropping to Fort Knox 2-1 and defeating Monroe 5-1.

Freshman Alex Cook scored 45 seconds into the match with the assist to sophomore James Crosswhite. Crosswhite outraced the entire Falcon defense as he gobbled up the first of freshman Marshall Metcalf’s three assists and knocked the ball past a stunned keeper two minutes in. Metcalf passed the ball to Gorman who volleyed the ball into the back netting.

Metcalf then served the ball to a racing 8th grader Curtis Milby to score his first goal of the season. Finally, with 10 minutes remaining in the match, sophomore Dakota White scored with the assist to Collado.

The JV team kept the Fort Knox Eagles from scoring in the second half of their meeting.

Metcalf scored on an assist from Cook.
