The general manager of The LaRue County Herald News has been selected as editor of The News-Enterprise.
Ben Sheroan, who began his journalism career at the Elizabethtown newspaper in 1974, assumed the new responsibilities Monday. He will continue in his role with the Herald News during an interim period.
Sheroan, 52, is a Hardin County native and graduate of North Hardin High School. In addition to his 18-month tenure here in LaRue County, he has served in a similar capacity with The Record, a weekly newspaper serving Grayson County.
Chris Ordway, publisher of The News-Enter-prise, said as editor Sheroan will be responsible for leading all aspects of the newsroom to achieve the strategic goals and objectives related to news and information content of the print and online components of the daily newspaper. Sheroan also will serve as a key member of the Senior Leader Team of the newspaper’s business unit.
Sheroan worked in various newsroom roles at The News-Enterprise during his career, including sports and news reporting, copy editing and design. He has worked at other daily and weekly newspapers in Kentucky as well as Tennessee, Alabama and West Virginia. His career also includes work in television and radio.
Sheroan and his wife, Jeanne, live in Elizabethtown and are members of First Christian Church. They have two grown children and three grandchildren.
Sheroan succeeds Warren Wheat, who retired in October after serving as editor of The News-Enterprise since January 2002.
