Learn to operate your machine

By Theresa Howard

Do you have a serger machine at home, but don’t really know how to use it? Do you like sewing but want to find out how to use a serger before purchasing one? These upcoming classes will help you.

Master Clothing Volunteer, Rosa Smith, is offering three classes at the Extension Service office on using a serger. The office is located at 807 Old Elizabethtown Road across from Magnolia Bank. Sept. 13 will be Serger 101; Oct. 4 will be Serger 102; and Nov. 15 will be Serger 103. All classes are 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.

Later upcoming classes are: Dec. 6 – Seam Finishing and Jan. 10 - Getting to Know Your Sewing Machine.

The fourth Monday of each month is open sew day at the Extension Service office, 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. You can bring your own project to work on or Rosa and a group of volunteers have an ongoing project of making comfort caps and pillows to donate to area cancer patients.

Class fee for Sept. 13 is $10, payable to the instructor. This will cover notebook materials to take home and lunch. For a list of items to bring to class and to register by Sept. 8 contact the Extension Office at 358-3401 or Rosa Smith at 358-9049.
