Budget cuts have taken a toll on national parks nationwide, causing even the largest parks to sever jobs and close what had been frequently traveled trails.
The Budget Control Act of 2011 sequestration cuts took effect March 1, 2012. It created a 5 percent decrease in funds for the National Park Service among other government funded departments.
The total amount taken from the NPS is $153 million.
Abraham Lincoln National Birthplace is one of the 401 national parks that have suffered due to the drastic budget change.
