LCMS
LCMS Registration
LaRue County Middle School will have registration for all students for the upcoming school year 10 a.m.-6 p.m. July 30 in the school’s library. Students will receive their schedules.
Orientation
LCMS will have orientation for incoming sixth graders on July 31. Students may choose from two sessions, 9-11 a.m. or 1-3 p.m. All sixth graders are encouraged to come for fun, meet classmates and learn their way around the school.

OTHER
Student art contest
The National Park Service, in partnership with the National Park Foundation’s African American Experience Fund, has launched a nationwide artistic competition to commemorate the 150th anniversary of the Emancipation Proclamation.
Contest submissions for “Expressions of Freedom” will be accepted from students 13 to 18 years old in three categories – photography, poetry and digital short films. The first place winner in each category will receive a $2,500 academic scholarship; second place receives a $1,000 academic scholarship.
Deadline for entries is Oct. 15. Details are available at http://www.nps.gov/freedom.
LaRue County Reads
Volunteer to tutor a child in reading for one-half hour each week at one of the local schools. Volunteers must attend a short training class. To volunteer or for more information, call Sarah Hornback at the LaRue County Board of Education at 358-8334 or 358-4111.
