Melissa Howell with the Kentucky Clean Fuels Coalition was on hand at the May 24 school board meeting to discuss the new hybrid school bus coming to LaRue County in August.
Howell said 22 districts across Kentucky would receive the buses, which still will operate with a diesel engine but also utilize a battery pack.
She said the bus would average 12.5 miles per gallon versus 7.5 mpg in a non-hybrid bus.
The bus is scheduled to be delivered in August.
“Kentucky will have the largest hybrid bus fleet in the nation,” Howell said.
