Robert E. “Bob” Brown, 84, of Hodgenville, passed away Tuesday, October 18, 2011, at Sunrise Manor Nursing Home in Hodgenville.
He was a graduate of Middle Tennessee State University where he played football, an Army veteran of World War II, former football coach for Franklin-Simpson High School, LaRue County High School principal and Director of Transportation for the LaRue County Board of Education. Bob attended Hodgenville Christian Church, was an auctioneer for many years having worked with Lewis Auction Company and an instructor for Nashville Auction School. He also served as a probation parole officer.
He was preceded in death by his first wife, Mary Ruth Brown in 1978.
He is survived by his wife, Ruth Ann Brown; a daughter, Polly (Jim) Sparks of Glasgow; a son, Mike (Sue) Brown of Hodgenville; a step-daughter, Kathy (Gary) Clements of Louisville; a step-son, Mike (Anita) Cruse of Hodgenville; a sister, Frieda Knapper of Winchester, Tenn.; eight grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.
Funeral services will be held 1 p.m. Friday, Oct. 21, 2011, at First Baptist Church Hodgenville with Rev. Carlton Puryear officiating. Burial will follow in Red Hill Cemetery.
Visitation will be 2-8 p.m. Thursday and after 9 a.m. Friday at Bennett-Bertram Funeral Home in Hodgenville.
